The new millennium has seen a massive thrust of new technology varying in different fields from mobile telephony to information technology.

Now are the times when we cannot think what our lives would be without e-mails, mobile phones, laptops, televisions & so on & so forth. It is more like man is being driven by technology rather than technology being driven by man. This has so happened because we are not being able to keep pace with the drastically fast moving developments in technology.

Instant messaging, VOIP services, video conferencing are the types of technologies that are driving global businesses today. Without development of information databases, management of information systems, integration of supply chains & the likes, it would not have been possible for businesses to expand across the globe. Keeping in mind the environmental aspects, electronic transfers of information have helped to reduce the level of paper used in the work arena & this has helped protect the environment.
Not only this, the advancements in technology have reduced the time involved in communication & related tasks to a great extent.

It is with technological progressions that economies have developed at a quicker pace & leisure class has come into being. Human efforts have become more efficient with use of hi tech products.

This era is also called the “dot com” era because of the kind of miraculous advancements that have taken place. Everything is now done online rather than attempting to do things in person. Students submit assignments on line; tutors give online lectures & evaluate assignments online as well. Air, bus, train all tickets can be booked online without the hassle of standing in long lines. Hotels anywhere in the world can be booked online & moreover one can even take a virtual tour of the hotel or a place before visiting it. Doctors can diagnose & perform surgeries on patients who are geographically dispersed by giving guidance through the internet with his team actually performing the surgery. Research & development for many industries like chemicals, pharmaceuticals, nuclear energy, etc have come to develop in sync with technological progressions.

In true sense, technology has progressed for the betterment of mankind, provided it is used in the right direction.
